WHAT THE FILM “THE BEACH” DID TO THIS ISLAND …

Have you seen the film “The Beach” by Leonardo DiCaprio?

Set on the coast of Thailand, the story of The Beach – based on the best-selling book of the same name by Alex Garland – told the tale of travelers’ tireless quest for the untouched, ideal beach. Thailand has some of the best beaches in the world.

So being in Thailand we, like many others decided to check out this idyllic island film set.

From Phuket we took a speed boat with 30 other tourists to Ko Phi Phi small island.

We found crystal clear waters, sparkling white sand and THOUSANDS of tourists. Im not kidding, movement was impossible. Smog from the 30+ motorboats lined up along the shoreline engulfed the beautiful island. Plastic litter had crept from the beach and into the lush green surroundings.

I can see why this island was chosen to be the film set because aside from the tourists, it really was beautiful!

Thailand is a beautiful country, like the rest of Asia- to feel close to nature. However many things, are exploited here- animals, people and apparently even beaches!

This is not sensible tourism people!!!

We went snorkeling and visited the surrounding islands also, all photos can be found on my memories page.
